Thread: Why does my 97 honda accord make a high pitched whining noise while running?

I have a 97 honda accord lx. While my car is running sometimes it will make a high pitched noise from under the hood while its in idle posotion. When i switch the car into neutral the noise stops, but still does on drive reverse and park. I have been having this problem for about a year now and i think it might have somethin to do with my compressor because my a/c doesnt work. Does anyone have any ideas about how to test my compressoe at all?

Ive recently recharged the system with freon, replaced upper and lower valves, and replaced the relays.

Can anyone help my with this? Could these problems be related, or any ideas on how to test the compressor?
