Would people have gone out on a date looking all scruffy? Probably not. Just because someone gets married doesn't mean they should stop making an effort to look nice. You don't have to look like a model 24/7 but neither should people spend all their time together in sweatpants and ratty hair.

You're supposed to love your spouse for who they are, yes. But how they take care of themselves says something about who they are. And constantly running around looking like crap says something about how they feel about their spouse as well. If they can't even fix their hair or put on nice clothes (the most basic of efforts) they're probably not putting much effort into anything else either.

Why do people complain that their wife/husband has let their appearance go

down the drain after marriage? Aren't you supposed to love them for who they are? Ive even heard of people divorcing over it. On the other extreme, I'm married to a woman who wouldn't be seen dead even walking the dog or going to the store without her make up done perfectly, she evens sprays perfume in her hair to make it smell nice. It's a pain in the a$$ if we want to go somewhere in a hurry. I tell her she looks just as gorgeous without it but as Im sure all married men know, if you're wife wants to do something then there's no stopping her lol.

    So you're bragging, right?

Let's face it, we all age differently. It is disappointing if your spouse doesn't do the same things that you do to try to stay young (exercise, eat right, etc.).

But hey, you married a hottie, so why complain?

People that complain want their partner to look like they did when they were dating. I often ask myself why I don't dress up as much or wear makeup as much as I did before I was married. It's liberating to be able to be in a relaxed mode at home, and my husband loves me dressed up or dressed down. I think the biggest problem is when we all start to gain weight and our health starts going down because of it.
