Thread: Whining noise in car speakers?

There is a whining noise in my speakers when the engine is running. I have a new head unit with a Left Rear and a Right Rear output going to the Amp. I also have a designated subwoofer output going to the amp. From the amp output, I have the wires hooked up to the respective speakers.

I used an amp wiring kit to wire the amp directly to the battery. The ground from the amp is to a bolt in the chassis, along with the ground from the head unit.

I hooked my ipod up directly to the amp. There was no engine whine noise. Therefore, this makes me believe that the amp, or anything involving the amp wiring, is not the problem.

I have two speakers hooked up directly to the Head Unit. Those speakers do not have the whining noise.

I have tried using a noise filter connecting the power to the head unit.

I hate that problem, sometimes it can be really hard to try and diagnose. Check your RCA connections, if you have cheap RCA cables get some good ones. There pricey but worth it, and make certain you have a good, solid, tight, ground for your amp on a clean unpainted surface.

i had the same problem for a while. i ended up replacing the speaker's that where whining and the noise stopped. so my guess is that the speakers you have are receiving to many watts or something like that.
