What is a "true atheist?" Christians argue over the meaning of "true christian"

what is a "true atheist? There are many things that can bring you to atheism: rationalism, skepticism, sceintific dissonance, emotions, dissonance between evil and an all knowing all powerful god, etc.

And many Atheists will say that Atheism is the Belief there is no God, the lack of belief, the refutation of a judeo christian god, a personal god, all things magical, all things metaphysical, afterlife, souls, etc and various combinations of these and many more.

I believe there are only different meanings of atheism, and different types of atheists but at what point does it become a matter of "true definitions?"

For example: There are Atheists who "reject God" and atheists who believe god(s) don't exist. They are very different and the two will not agree on much but both will profess atheism and fit very literal definitions of atheism.

However, when do you reach the point when you are trying to call a Buick a bird?

What is the future of Atheism? What is the true current definition that hasn't been expressed by dictionaries yet?

Look at it like a scale or yardstick...

It would start on the left and go to the right like this...

    >Militant True Believer...Pacifist True Believer...Pacifist Agnostic...Militant Agnostic...Atheist...Militant Atheist...>

True Believer actually believes that stuff...

Militant Agnostic admits honestly that he doesn't know what the hell is going on and neither do you!

The militant True Believer is the most dangerous, and the pacifist atheist is the nicest...and the female true believers are the best in bed...

(Are you taking notes? Cuz' I just made this sheet up...)

Allot of times when people use the word "true" or "truth" as an adjective they mean it in a spiritual sense. I'm just an atheist, I don't need the adjective.

There is no such thing as a "true" atheist or a "true" Christian.

There are strong and weak atheists.

Lets begin with the fallacy so common on this board.that the opposite of an atheist is a Christian. Most of the people in the world who believe in God are not Christian. The opposite of an atheist is a theist, and a Christian is one type of theist, someone who believes in a God. That said the definition of an atheist (a-theist) is someone who doesn't believe in any God. I don't know why some people seem to want to make it more complicated than that. There is only one type of atheist. Saying that someone "rejects God" implies that the person on some level believe in God. They would not then be an atheist.

Atheism predates the Abrahamic religions so it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

One who wears a kilt and eats haggis.
Wait! That would be a true Scotsman.

A 'true' atheist is one who denies the existence of any supernatural beings (gods) of any kind in any form.
One who simply rejects the notion of 'god' in the current available constructs is more of an Agnostic.

A 'true atheist' simply doesn't have any belief in gods.

In that sense, that is any atheist. That is the only requirement.

So I don't think there is a point to saying 'true atheist'.

Rejecting god(s) is not believing there are no god(s).
