What makes some people scream during emergencies?

When they themselves are not injured or affected in any way? What does this accomplish?

Does fear make them unable to do anything else?
I disagree with some of you.. Basic instinct? I don't know about you but I would act rather than being a useless fool..

Basic instinct for a child maybe, but adults should be composed enough to do something rational, like calling the police or doing something to help.. Not screaming like a toddler..

you go into a state of shock. your brain triggers our flight or fight system and we basically are ruled by whatever comes at us first. if we see something shocking, we scream, if we hear something, we scream. its normal reaction. like when you scare someone, they scream. reflex almost.

Same reason little kids scream when playing tag. It's a cry for help because of extreme emotion.

    Fear, instinct to danger

fear gives you shock, which yes, can paralyze the body for as long as a few days.

Its a flash realisation they have no control over a situation. This triggers a fear response. Fear responses are a natural reflex primarily designed to make something go away.

it's just a reflex. It's not planned or intented. I have screamed when startled, so I imagine it's the same sort of thing as that.
