Thread: What could cause this whining sound?

I bought a 2005 dodge stratus a few weeks ago from an independent dealership. I was on my way home and I heard this whining sound coming from the dashboard. It gets louder the faster I drive..quieter when I slow down. I don't hear it when the car is stopped. It usually starts around 45-60 mph.

are you shure it is in the dash? sounds like it could be a wheel bearing. while driving turn the wheel side to side just a little and see if the sound changes if so I would look in to the bearings.good luck
