How much do beagles whine/cry/bark?

My cocker spaniel died, and the family doesn't want another one because they feel that the new one will always be compared to our last one, who we loved dearly. So one breed we are considering is a the beagle. My friend's friend had one, and it whined A LOT. so I just wanted to know if that's the case for all of them. Do they whine all the time for no reason, when someone rings the doorbell, when they want something, etc? Thanks

Don't - they bay, they whine, they cry - they're HOUNDS!

If you were happy with your Cocker, perhaps a switch to an English Springer or a Cavalier would be a better idea. They are more on the same 'wavelength' as what you are used to.

Trust me, if you are not already a hound person, you don't want a hound.
