Rover 45 - whining/humming noise from rear of car?

This noise happens when stationary and the engine is on. coming from the rear drivers tyre area. It is not a wheel bearing/exhaust and does not change frequency when revving the car. Any ideas?

sounds like a noisy fuel pump. this can common on a lot of cars. have it rebuilt or buy a new one. check if it is the fuel pump first of course :-)
