Granted, it's not for very long at all and it's not because he needs the toilet.

I THINK it's because I'm downstairs as well as he is, but I can't sleep at night because I have awful insomnia and I'm not allowed to use the laptops, so the only thing I can do is stay downstairs on the computer and watch a dvd through headphones or surf the internet.

The whining usually starts at 2am and stops after about 10 minutes after I don't go to him, but why does he do this? He's not in a crate, he has the whole kitchen to himself and a plethora of toys.
Forgot to add, he's 10-11 weeks old and we've had him since he was 5 weeks. (Please don't ask why, the breeder had a very valid reason kthx) He's had all of his shots now and he goes for walks, which is another thing...

He whines on walks too. He had his first 'long' walk yesterday, just around the block to get him used to it and we ran for a short stretch and he kept whining after that.
