Yes, it's okay. The question is, how effective is it? Dust can stick really badly to fans and other parts.
I'd check on youtube for somebody else opening the same model of laptop. It's usually not that hard.
As long as you're careful and don't use excessive force, you should be fine.

All actions in life have the potential for unintended consequences. That includes opening it up.
