...(Faulty AGP Stop)? I recently installed a GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB into my computer. The card is replacing a blown out pair of GeForce 7300 GT 512MBs that were setup to run as SLi. The fans on both gave out, causing the parts to overheat and melt down.

I installed the new 8800 to the best of my ability in the primary AGP slot. I've built PCs from the case up using store bought components.

When I power on the system the 8800 emmits a shrill whine and my computer fails the POST. Based on some surface examination the fan seems to not be functioning. I have located and connected the 6 pin power cable to the far side of the card, however connected or not the card still made its high pitch whine.

As an aside, when the computer is turned off, the whine tends to drop in pitch, not smoothly, but in a way reminisicent of machinery spinning down.

Is it possible the fan is DoA? Or is it some other quirk of this particular series of card? Thanks much in advance.
