I know it's early to ask this question but.....(Only answer if you know. If not

please don't rant...)....? What's the history behind Christmas trees? (I know it started as a pagan tradition, but I'm looking for more specific details). Did it start as a form of idolatry. And if so, then what does having a Christmas tree say or imply?

I'm pretty sure it is pagan in origin. I forgot why christians use it though. I think a christian cut down an Oak and a spruce popped up. Instead of admitting defeat the christian said that they should use a spruce because it is a symbol of christ's power.

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is just one of many Christian traditions that people mistakenly assume is of pagan origin. The first recorded use of a Christmas tree was among Christians in Germany, 16th century (centuries after the disappearance of paganism in Germany).

It didn't start as a pagan tradition. I know it started in Germany a few hundred years ago, but that's all I know. Try google or wikipedia, I'm sure you'll find something.

To start off with, anyway. It doesn't go back as far as it really should.

Generally it was bringing an evergreen into the home so the memory of spring and the coming warm season/growing season would brighten the gloom of winter for the household (among other reasons).
