i have a high piched whine in my living room that carries on when power at consumer

unit is off. Any ideas? Just seemed to start yesterday sometime (went to work everything fine, came home to a whine). Have turned of all sockets and left for at least 10 mins. Have turned off power to the house at the consumer unit, still whines (though only for a few seconds). No whine coming from any speakers or doorbell or smoke alarms! Doesn't appear to be coming from under the sofas or any of the kids toys either! Driving me bloody potty :-(
