    I have a 1996 chevy 1500 with a 350 with 5speed trans and i am hearing a...

    ...whining sound while driving? i replaced gear oil and u joint, the sound seems to be coming from the engine area. any ideas or common problems? thanks

    by the way the trans shifts super smooth and doesn't grind or anything

    put a little water on the belt.. if the vehicle stops whining then all u need is a new belt but if the vehicle still whines then u prob need a new transmission. but there could be 100 diff problems ya never know

    Those trannys (NV3500 for most 1/2 tons) can have some bearings go bad. Mine went bad (ish) at 50,000 miles, but kept going for another 50,000. Of course that had caused more damage to some other parts.
