Unfortunately, there is not much you can do. When you sell things on Ebay, you should ALWAYS send things with delivery confirmation of some sort. Otherwise, you can find yourself getting the short end of the stick. It is also important to get insurance on items, or at least make it VERY clear in your ad that you are not responsible for lost/damaged items in the event the buyer does not opt for insurance.

If you have your receipt, it should at least show the price and the zip code where your item was sent. Your best bet is to use that information in your response along with the date and time it was sent. Explain that you did not purchase delivery confirmation and therefore was not provided with a tracking number. Sadly, I don't think you will win this one.

Sorry I was not more help.

How do I provide my complaining customer with a tracking number I don't have?

Ok, so I sold a dress on ebay and this stupid woman filed a dispute against me on paypal... she'd been waiting 3 measly days! I sent the item at my local post office, but i can't answer the dispute and prove that I have sent it because I wasn't given a tracking number. I was just given a receipt. Now paypal have put a hold on my funds and I need to pay for ebay items now.. What shall I do?

I did not think that she could open a dispute after just 3 days. 2nd class post and standard parcels aim to deliver within 3 working days - aims too - their aim is not always that good!

I have been ebaying for 4 years and i always, repeat always, set my carriage charge at a level where it will pay for a signed for delivery method. With a dress this would have been 2nd class Recorded Delivery and would have cost no more than £3. If you sent it by ordinary post all you have is a receipt of posting which cannot be tracked. If you did send it recorded your printed receipt will show the tracking number which will be a 13 character 'number' that will begin with two letters and end with gb.
