Thread: Dog whines while defecating?

Today I took my dog out, he urinated, and when he got into the position to poop, he started whining, and looking back at his but, he did this for about 15 seconds, although the whining was minimal. Can anyone tell me whats going on? I didn't see him eat anything that he can't digest, although last night he was eating one of those pork bones that they sell at petco, so I don't know what going on. Any help is appreciated.

sounds like it hurts when hes straining. maybe a bit of the bone has come off, check the bone to see if it has splintered.

If he is constipated, give him some canned pumpkin. A bone can cause constipation. Be careful of splinters!

I had something similar happen to a dog of mine years ago. My parents gave my dog a real cooked pork bone. She apparently chewed the bone up but in reformed in her stomach and she had a terrible time passing the bone.She howled and cried while trying to poo. We had to take her to our Vet, I think he had to pick the bone out of her bum. After that, we never gave any of our dogs bones.
