Whining Puppy Experience?

my husband works for the animal control for our town. Yesterday he was flagged down by a man on the side of the road. The man had spotted a momma dog and her litter of puppies, I believe there were like 7 or 8 puppies. Anyways i don't know how old the puppies are but the mom was in BAD shape. Well all the puppies were taken to the shelter and so was the mom. My husband fell in love with one female of the bunch and brought her home, she is doing ok i guess, not too bad, we put her in the kennel last night and she whinedall night long, which i know is to be expected for a little while, and i just wanted to know if there is anything i can do to help her in this transition. all answers are appreciated and thanks to all who answer! have a great day!
