If .mov file is too large to be converted in DivX is there another...

...program/way to convert it to AVI? Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere will not accept .mov files so I need to convert the file to AVI or mp4 or something. I usually use DivX Converter, but it keeps giving me an error message. I tried trimming the file down in QuickTime and then converting it, but its like an hour and a half long movie and DivX wouldn't even convert a 15 minute clip. Please help I need to edit this footage and be able to load it online.
