Why don't Jews believe that Jesus is the Messiah when there are so many prophecies

about him in the Torah? This is a prophecy in the book of Isaiah which is Old Testament and Torah

53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Jesus never said he was God. He said My father is greater than me and he taught to pray our Father who art in Heaven hollowed be thy name.
He is a High Priest who is intercessor for us. By the order of Melchizedek
    Psalms 110.4 and Hebrews 6.20
Jesus is seated at the right hand of God.
By the way I'm not Catholic
People misinterpret that he is one with the Father just as we can be when we serve him. The Old Testament refers to him as faithful servant

Did you know that if you type "Messianic prophecies & Jews" into the search box, over 165 questions from just the last six months come up? Did you know that prophecies like Nostradamus are easily claimed to be fulfilled AFTER an event has occurred? Did you know that there are people who believe the events describe in Revelations have already happened? Did you know that there is absolutely no prophecy that says the messiah will come, fulfill some prophecies and then come back over two thousand years later to do the rest?

Sorry but Nowhere in the Old Testament do they foretell of the messiah being called Jesus or becoming God. Lets just begin their. Isaiah 53 is speaking about a messiah who would die for Yahweh's [God] chosen people, not the whole world.

Sirius is right about one thing. Nowhere in the Old Testament it calls Jesus by his name. But that doesn't mean he's not The Messiah they are waiting for. The prophesies are fulfilled in this Messiah we call Jesus. I believe the reason God didn't give the Jews the name of the Messiah is because he wanted them to watch for him and see if they believe. With all the clues they gave the Jews, how could they overlook it? It's like in OJ's trial. All the evidence that was overlooked and he still got off scott free!

answer: You are reading the Old Testament. You are NOT reading the original Tanakh. The Jews know what G-d told them about the Messiah, they've known it for centuries - Jesus wasn't it.

There are not 300 - 600 prophecies about the Messiah in the Tanakh, there are 23 and Jesus fulfilled NONE of them. Everything about Jesus shows that he was NOT the Jewish Messiah: miracles, divine birth, human sacrifice, rising from the dead, being worshiped as a deity, not accomplishing everything, son of G-d - all of that is against what G-d taught the Jews.

Here the REAL prophecies about the Jewish Messiah:

    * The Sanhedrin will be re-established (Isaiah 1:26)
    * Once he is King, leaders of other nations will look to him for guidance. (Isaiah 2:4)
    * The whole world will worship the One God of Israel (Isaiah 2:17)
    * He will be descended from King David (Isaiah 11:1) via King Solomon (1 Chron. 22:8-10)
    * The Moshiach will be a man of this world, an observant Jew with "fear of God" (Isaiah 11:2)
*****In other words - this must all be accomplished in a human lifetime*****
    * Evil and tyranny will not be able to stand before his leadership (Isaiah 11:4)
    * Knowledge of God will fill the world (Isaiah 11:9)
    * He will include and attract people from all cultures and nations (Isaiah 11:10)
    * All Israelites will be returned to their homeland (Isaiah 11:12)
    * Death will be swallowed up forever (Isaiah 25:8)
    * There will be no more hunger or illness, and death will cease (Isaiah 25:8)
    * All of the dead will rise again (Isaiah 26:19)
    * The Jewish people will experience eternal joy and gladness (Isaiah 51:11)
    * He will be a messenger of peace (Isaiah 52:7)
    * Nations will end up recognizing the wrongs they did to Israel (Isaiah 52:13-53:5)
    * The peoples of the world will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance (Zechariah 8:23)
    * The ruined cities of Israel will be restored (Ezekiel 16:55)
    * Weapons of war will be destroyed (Ezekiel 39:9)
    * The Temple will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 40) resuming many of the suspended mitzvot
    * He will then perfect the entire world to serve God together (Zephaniah 3:9)
    * Jews will know the Torah without Study (Jeremiah 31:33)
    * He will give you all the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4)
    * He will take the barren land and make it abundant and fruitful (Isaiah 51:3, Amos 9:13-15, Ezekiel 36:29-30, Isaiah 11:6-9).

Here is how Christianity is against Judaism:

    JUDAISM
    - says that no human can ever die for the sins of others
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that Jesus died for the sins of mankind

    JUDAISM
    - says that all humans are born pure, and innocent
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that all humans are born with 'original sin'.

    JUDAISM
    - says that G-d would never allow/enable a 'virgin birth'
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that Mary gave birth, though a virgin

    JUDAISM
    - says that no man gets a 'second coming'
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that Jesus will have a 'second coming'

    JUDAISM
    - says that every human should speak directly to G-d
    CHRISTIANITY
    - Jesus claims in the 'new testament' that the 'only way' to G-d is via him

    JUDAISM
    - says G-d is one, indivisable, cannot be separated into three aspects/incarnations
    CHRISTIANITY
    - some sects speaks of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

    JUDAISM
    - says that we are ALL equally G-d's children
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that Jesus was 'god's son' above all others

    JUDAISM
    - has no concept of 'hell'
    CHRISTIANITY
    - *some* Christians non believers to 'hell'

    JUDAISM
    - has no 'devil', the Jewish 'Satan' is just an ordinary angel, under G-d's control
    CHRISTIANITY
    - describes 'Satan' as a devil and 'fallen' angel

    JUDAISM
    - the 'messiah' will be a normal, mortal man who must fulfill all the Jewish messianic prophecies in one normal, mortal lifetime
    CHRISTIANITY
    - Jesus was the 'messiah' and will fulfill the prophecies when he 'returns'

    JUDAISM
    - says that the righteous of ALL faiths will reach 'gan eden' or 'garden of eden'.
    CHRISTIANITY
    - some Christians insist that only those who 'know Christ' can reach heaven

    JUDAISM
    - forbids Jews from trying to convert anyone to Judaism
    CHRISTIANITY
    - believes in actively 'witnessing' and encouraging people to convert to Christianity

    JUDAISM
    - no concept of original sin
    CHRISTIANITY
    - some sects of Christianity believe in “original sin” to justify the need for a savior. Others believe that humankind cannot keep from sinning and requires a savior to cleanse them.

Thanks Paperback for the majority of this with some tweaking by Qua Patet Orbis and Myself.
    http://www.angelfire.com/al/AttardBezzinaLawrenc/JewCathDifference.htm

Jesus was perfect for the pagan Gentiles - a miracle performing, divine, sacrificed, rising Savior was just what the pagans could relate to. He was totally opposite of what was promised to the Jews.

Try reading the Tanakh without your blinders and don't believe the mistranslations and wishful

Because Jesus claims to be God. (indirectly)

That is against the First Commandment. "Thou Shall Have no other Gods before me!" Therefore Jesus cannot be the Messiah.
