why would the mayans lie about this????

The end of the world is supposed to come on December 21 2012 because the Mayan calender ends.

Thats when their calendar stops, they stopped making it

It's not so much about a certain date, but its about this period in history when humanity reaches an important point:

A common misconception is that mayans predicted the world to end in 2012, which they technically did, but it is very different than the common misconception. The mayans actually predicted that our physical reign of this world will end, and we will move to another astral plane, therefore we will become gods. As for Nostradamus and others, I think maybe one predicted an event in 2012, and the others just expanded on that idea or stole it. Hope that helps!!

The mayans didn't predict anything. It's only modern day people who are interpreting the data in a way to fit their little Mayan calendar theory. They're the only ones who say something is going to happen in 2012. Everything they base this information on is just mumbo-jumbo that can't really be interpreted to mean anything.

The Mayan Calendar is the most accurate calendar known to man kind. It is divided in to many parts. When on era ends the calendar ends. So after 2012, they are predicting it will be a start of the "Golden Age". It is actually a very hot topic because people think that the end of the world will be around December, 2012. That is because the calendar ends on 2012. I would recommend Google it. it's very interesting!

The mayan calender ends in 2012..no one said it was because the world ends then.. that is just supposition. Nostradamus never said anything about 2012. That is just misinformation.

Because thats when the Mayan Calender ends. Some people actually think that "Judgment Day" has already begun. With all the Natural Disasters and Wars (i.e. Hurricane Katrina, War in Iraq, Earthquakes in Asia, etc.) some believe that the world really is going to end.
