You know, men from 4,000 years ago telling us that a redeemer will come one day is all fine and dandy, but if people can actually see into the future, why don't they do something useful? Why didn't they predict 9/11 and get the flight cancelled? Why didn't they predict the First World War and ensure that Archduke Franz Ferdinand was never assassinated? Why didn't they predict the Holocaust and place Adolf Hitler into preemptive psychotherapy?
Not only that, but the main issue with prophecy is it's vague, incoherence. Prophecies are famous for being interpreted many ways, they are deliberately ambiguous and are often interpreted how the listener wants to interpret them, or by an observer who tries to make it fits the facts.
But everybody knows prophecies are ambiguous, that wasn't my main issue; my main problem with alleged prophecies is that they haven't been put to practical use, if they even exist.
Surely, if your God can see the future and can impart that wisdom onto certain humans (who interestingly enough, often seem to frequently have large crowds at their disposal) then why wouldn't he - being benevolent and compassionate - do his best to warn us about tragedies?
