I doubt humans will even be around when the sun explodes.

I think inevitably we will end up destroying ourselves, sadly. Either with technology, or some kind of chemical warfare....
OR there could be another ice age or some kind of virus that wipes us all out - the earth has a way of cleansing itself so maybe mother nature will do it.

An appeal to uniformitarianism. We, like other animals on the planet for the last millions of years will likely die out due to cataclysm, lack of resources, rise of a superior species, disease, or mutually assured destruction.
