Baby is now six months old and starting on solids. She is still mostly breastfed and gets one solid meal a day. The pediatrician recommended starting her on a second one soon. So far she got some carrots, apple, pear, baby rice-cereal mixed with water, and chicken. I was wondering, if it is essential for baby's health that she gets breast milk or formula into her cereals (I understand that cow milk is a no-no during baby's first year.) or would plenty of meat provide her with enough protein? I intend to go on nursing at least for six more months, but the first six months of exclusive nursing were pretty tough on my body and I could do with some less strain. So pumping for the cereal sounds not like much of a relief for me.

If formula is necessary, is there special formula that is less likely to cause allergies than others?
