Does it cost money to use the internet on the Nintendo DSi?

I'm thinking of purchasing a DSi tomorrow but firstly want to know Is it just like a mobile phone where you can browse the internet without having to plug anything in? and does it cost money to use the internet on it?

everyone says the internet and wi-fi connection is free, so u dont hav to pay for dat except for some downloads which cost extra money. aint that great?!!!!!! free wifi and internet connection

umm i am pretty sure you do not have to pay but you can buy stuff from the dsi shop that costs actual money
