Thread: Pregnant = Ruined future?

Why do most people think that if you're young or haven't accomplished something big that you shouldn't have kids? That having a baby destroys your life and any future you wanted? It's not true. I don't encourage getting pregnant young or when you're not ready but I do encourage being responsible for your actions. I think it's disgusting then people use abortion as a form of birth control. My mother raised 5 kids while my father was always passed out and went to college to become a RN. It was hard work but she worked her butt off and was ALWAYS on the dean's list. What I don't understand why don't we encourage our young mothers to better themselves instead of telling them their lives are over. They're already are pregnant and you can't change that but why can't we encourage them to have better lives?

We shouldn't be telling them how everything is over. We should be telling them it's going to be a tough road ahead but worth it and that they should work hard to better themselves so that their new little family will have a better life.

because people are obsessed with statistics? Because various informative sources give you graphs and bars and charts on what happens to teenage mothers. All signs point to piss poor but because graphs are such a powerful medium, people quote the information over and over again until it sticks and becomes a general knowledge.
