Thread: Point of the prophecy in Harry Potter?

Okay so ive read the HP series countless times, but everytime i get to the order of the pheonix i get confused.

First of all: How is the prophecy a weapon?
Why is it being guarded by the order?
and why does voledmort want it so bad?

like it says in the book " its something he didn't have last time".
But even if he gets it now, so what? Voldemort already put it to action when trying to kill Harry, and he's already after harry anyway, so why the big fuss throughout the book?
Yes, I understand that already. I just don't get why it's a big deal if voldemort hears it? Half the prophecy has already happened, and voldemort already wants to kill Harry, so hearing whole thing he will just want to kill Harry more? : S

The prophecy tells that either Harry will have to kill Voldemort, or the other way around. The two cannot coexist. It's basically confirmation to Voldemort that the only way he will gain power is if Harry Potter is dead. It tells Voldemort how to rise to power.

He has never heard the full version of the prophecy. The order knows (Voldy just guesses) that he would have information that could be dangerous if he know it. So the propechy is a weapon because, to voldy, the contents are unknown. He wants it so he would get the info, and the order doesn't want him to have information, so they guard it. I hope that made sense.
