Star crossed lovers means to be opposed by fate. Fate is the main thing that kept them apart, and in the end it got to them - the only way to be together was in death.

Other than this: Romeo killing Tybalt, not only got him banned from Verona it also meant Juliet had to make a choice with who she loved more.
The fact that Juliet was engaged to Paris.
The letter was never delivered to Romeo to let him know that Juliet wasn't dead but sleeping, so he wasn't in on the plan.

A lot of things, but fate was the reason behind it all.
