Thread: Is my mechanic's prediction correct?

I have a 4 cylinder manual transmission 2003 mitsubishi eclipse. Recently I forgot to check the coolant and the engine overheated...Since then it makes a noise which sounds like the pistons quietly pumping when the clutch isn't pressed in. I got the transmission flushed and the mechanic said there was metal in the fluid. He said my clutch and transmission will need to be replaced in 6 months to a year. The car has 103,000 miles, and the clutch was replaced only a year ago. Any ideas?

Any transmission is going to have some metal in the bottom of the tranny. That is why the drain plugs have magnets on them. No need to worry about that transmission. Maybe clutch on the other hand may need to be replaced due to normal wear. But, since the clutch is only a year old, then I wouldn't worry about it for a few more years yet.
