    My baby is due to have a MAG3 test for hydronephrosis; are there known future side

    affects like cancer for eg? I am worried sick about it. Does any one know what sort of radioactive dosages are used for injecting into a baby just to show up on the imaging... please I am worried sick.

    These tests are carried out using radioactive isotopes that have very short half lives. The dose your baby will receive is very very tiny, compared to the radiation it will have received from a chest x-ray.
    Once the isotope has gone from your babies system, it leaves no lasting effects at all.
    Once the isoptope is injected, three blood samples will be taken, at 1hr, 2hr and 3hr intervals. Your babies kidneys will have filtered out the isotope from it's blood and it is then that the units are measured to estimate the amount of hydronephrosis.
