do a lot of young adults feel that america's future?

    is guaranteed?

i get the sense that a good portion of them actually believe that america will always be there for THEM, regardless of what we do overseas. that if we never war again that the rest of their lives will be carefree of what takes place "over there somewhere".

Considering that Americans are, on average, embarrassingly ignorant of what's going on in the world around them, it would certainly seem so.

To stay on top you HAVE to be the world's police. It is just how it has to be, but if you start getting into too many things overseas all at once. (like we are in now) Then the troops get too wide spread and cannot properly control things. If I were to pick I would say that we should just try to be somewhere like number 2 and focusing on guarding ourselves instead of other countries all of the time. This way we can definately guard ourselves against possible attacks here where we live. Right now our troops are so spread out that I don't have the faith that we could live through an attack in our homeland.

I think a few older adults, too, feel that America will always be the world's predominant power. It won't be.

I don't know exactly how many empires there have been throughout history, but off the top of my head and with limited time I can cite a few examples: the Roman, the Mongol, the Holy Roman, the Ottoman, the Napoleonic, the thankfully short-lived Third Reich, The Habsburg, the British...

One thing is common to ALL of the empires I've mentioned and all of the empires I haven't mentioned...they no longer exist.

Empires fall. America's will too. I'd prefer it if America could hang onto it for a bit longer, because the alternative does not thrill me, but there are certain people who believe 1) everything's fine 2) everything will always be fine and 3) anyone who says anything's not fine is a traitor or a commie or some brain-dead bollocks.
