It's laudable for venture capital firms to try to recruit more women, as Valley investors like Steve Jurvetson are trying. But let's not pretend that they're missing out on fabulous investment opportunities. "Women are starting businesses at twice the rate of men," Trish Costello, chief executive emeritus for the Center for Venture Education, tells the New York Times. "If you don't have women in your partnership or on your advisory board, you are not going to be within those networks." Oh, please, what politically correct slanting of the data: this army of female "entrepreneurs" consists mainly of impoverished self-employed workers. The pool of startup talent remains overwhelmingly and inconveniently male. Silicon Valley should bring on more women, both in management and venture capital. But, if venture firms want to cater to entrepreneurial minorities, they'd do better to hire male Indian engineers.</img>
