Pressure into a bigger size bike?

I recently purchased a Trek DS 8.5 bike . I wanted the 15.5 frame, but the store clerk insisted I get the 17.5 . He said there wasn't much of a difference between the two. Only about two inch difference from the standover. I am only 5'3 1/2 feet tall. Should I have gotten the smaller one ?

The most important thing is that you're comfortable with your bike and you feel like you have good control over it. You are on the shorter side so I might have recommended the smaller one (of course I'd have to see you on the bike to be sure) but you can most likely get away with either. Also, if you're still growing that might be a reason to get the bigger one .
