If you can drive a car with a manual you are pretty close, such as shifting when engine revs and so forth. Differences are clutch is left hand instead of left foot. Shifter is left foot. Instead of putting it in a selected gear it will shift up a gear when you pull up with your foot and shift down a gear when you push down. Neutral is between 1st and 2nd. so the gears go 1n2-3-4-5. it is actually easier to operate a motorcycle manual than a car, once you have learned. For a first bike I would recomend a cruiser such as the Honda shadow. Cruisers have more low end power, makeing it easier to get the clutch right at starts and they are lower priced, get better gas milage, and your insurance will cost less.
