Will aquarium sand harm my pleco fish?

I have a pleco (sucker) fish in my fresh water aquarium and the tank is currently lined with the regular pebble bedrock. I am trying to make my aquarium look more natural so I've added live plants and realistic rocks but now I want to switch out the bedrock for aquarium sand since it will look better with the surroundings and be better for the plants.

I am curious about my pleco's feeding habits. It will suck on the bedrock and I'm scared that it could ingest the sand and be harmed by it. Is there anyone who can help me out with this matter?

Fish are smart.. their not going to eat sand. Your pleco will actually enjoy the sand a lot better because he can move around on it, dig through it, etc and it will be nice and soft.
