My husband and I own a 3yr old pit/boxer mix, we have only had him for a little over 4 months he is a great dog, and we are happy to have him, we are just worried about his tendencies. I have owned pit's before and they are wonderful dogs, but this one we have now seems to act very weird.
He will be so happy and extremly playful the whole day and even just about all night but once in a blue moon he just gets so scared around my husband and my husband does not do anything to him, he will be throwing the ball for him or just lay there with him and then out of no where the dog will get up and start shaking and run to his cage and shake when he sees my husband this usually last for about half a day or over night. Then the next day he will be back to normal.
The man we got him from looks nothing like my husband and used to punish him by hitting him with a fishing pole and keeping him in his cage all the time, and now that we have him, he gets to exercise more, he gets to play more and he does not get punished by being hit or stuck in his cage. I find that this behavior is very strange and we have tried to do different things but out of no where he will just get skiddish and hide from my husband, he does not growl, bark or bite at us he just starts to shake and cower. We have talked to several trainers and they tell us to just keep doing what we are doing with him and that is just letting him be when he goes in his cage we don't force him or anything but we worry because he does not eat the whole time he is in there.
What do y'all think about this? Does anyone have any of the same experiences dealing with the same thing? Do you have any tips on this?
