    Red Worms in Aquarium Gravel?

I just cleaned my 25 gallon tank and saw a large number of small, red worms flying up the tube. I'm not sure what they are, they only seem to be in the gravel as I haven't seen them before. They could be black worms (?) because there were a few of them in the moss balls I bought (I thought the fish ate them all!). Could they be harmful to the fish?
