Rabbit is paralyzed?

One of my teachers has this rabbit who has suddenly lost the use of his back legs. My teacher thinks the legs might be paralyzed and there is nothing we can do to help it. Is it possible for this to be caused by lack of nutrition or an uncleaned cage? He doesn't keep the cages clean enough and I often find the rabbits sitting in their own fecal matter. If so, could the legs obtain their movement back if the rabbit was given proper care?

I would just like to make it clear that I would NEVER let an animal come to this horrible a fate and I am simply trying to help the poor creature.
