I took my little dog into the vet this morning (she's a chihauhau mix, about 4 years old), to have her teeth cleaned after noticing she had a loose tooth. When I went to pick her up, I found that the vet had extracted 13 of my dog's teeth without calling me or asking for permission to do so. I saved her from a shelter two years ago, so I don't know what her life was for the first 2 years, but since I have owned her she has had a healthy diet that should of kept her teeth healthy.

For such a young dog, is it normal to need to extract so many teeth? I guess I am just totally shocked this was needed and wish they would of given me the chance for a second opinion.
