my dog got CLIPPED and I'm worried!?

hi, i just got back from the groomer. I have a mutt that I think may have some newfie in it. anyway, she was totally matted to the skin and they gave her a very short cut- not to the skin but she has about a 1/4 inch of fur left. Is she going to be ok??? I never had such a shirt cut but the matts were too severe...and we discovered that under her coat she had a big rash on her tail. any tips???

She'll be fine. Take her to the vet to get the rash checked out. It could be allergies or some kind of parasite or even eczema.

Yes. Severe matting is considered dog abuse. You need to brush your dog thoroughly at least once a week.

    Mats are cruel.

Her hair will grow back but you need to start brushing her every single day to prevent her from matting again in the future. The rash needs to be treated by a vet.

You should learn how to brush your dog out so she doesn't get matted. Keep her inside if its cold out. Her fur will grow back.

There's no reason why she shouldn't be okay.
Shaving a dog generally isn't good for the coat, but when matts & tangles are severe it's necessary.

When her fur begins to grow back out, make sure you brush it every day so that it doesn't become tangled again.

When mats are severe, a short clip is the only option - you can't get them out without hurting the dog. Basically, keep her warm and groom her often so it doesn't happen again.
