I just changed to a CHE and bought a digital thermometer. Just as a test, I placed the probe on the surface of the substrate on the hottest side of the viv. It is registering only 77 degrees after 24 hours! I ordered a thermostat but in the meantime, I am using a rheostat and have it set to the HIGH setting. The CHE is a 60 watt and the viv is a 20 gallon. Should I use a higher wattage(the 60 watt is suggested for a 10-20 gallon viv.) Just can't figure out why it is registering so cold on the hot end. Could it be a bum thermometer? Thanks!
