Is there anyway to open palm database files if handheld 'died' but you have...

...the files? I can't synch to my Palm desktop because the handheld suddenly stopped working, but have updated "Palm database files" I need to open/access to get to this most current information.
I need to get access to the most accurate versions of my datebook and address book - which are now saved as "palm database files" on my desktop (from the memory stick I used to backup my handheld). I don't have a recent copy of the datebook or address book synched on the Palm desktop, so the only way I get get to my data is to find a way to open the "palm desktop files" without the hotsynch option. Can anyone help? How can one read such files?
