ya, so does everyone else. unfortunately Verizon likes to screw people and say you don't need it, then poof, its on the bill. then when you call them and ask, they say it is REQUIRED for the phone, even though it is not, they just want more money.

I want to buy a smartphone off of ebay and activate it on Verizon wireless' website. I currently have the basic $39.99 plan. Will Verizon detect that my new phone is a smartphone and automatically upgrade me to a data plan? I don't need the data features, I just really like the smartphone.
Im doing the same thing as you but im with the Bell network instead of Verizon.
I'm getting a smartphone (motorola Q)
But i dont want to use the internet on it...
Im pretty sure that you keep the same plan that you've always had.
They wouldnt upgrade it without at least asking you first.
Just make sure that you dont use the internet on your phone while you dont have a data plan, because you'll end up paying alot. OR it might not even connect you to the internet.
