I currently have a sony ericsson with unlimited data, but if I upgrade to a PDA or smartphone will I have to add a plan?

Yes, you will have to add the data paln which is 30.00 to any "Smartphone" and all Blackberry phones. Some of the plans are called data some are PDA they all serve the same purpose and all cost 30. If you get any Blackberry it is required and most smartphones require it to do texting. However, you can drop the unlimited data plan that you currently have because once you add the data or PDA plan it will take care of everything that you currently do with your unlimited data and still will cost about the same.

Unlimited data for a PDA is $30 but it isn't required on any phone except the iPhone. You can upgrade to a blackberry without adding the $30 data feature but it would be pointless to have any PDA without an internet package, as most of the functions are geared for internet usage.
