i have a blackberry smartphone but i cant send my gif images to my friends?

at first i thought it was because i was tring to send it to my phone from phonezoo.com but when i figured out that i can just transfer them to my phone from my computer i did but i still cant send it i do but the other party never gets it why cant i send them am i using the wrong type of file? what da heck is gif anyways?
