Thread: does a handheld GPS tell you if you have strayed from yor route home?

with my GPS in the nissan, if i am off track it will tell me to turn around for example. Do the handheld have any way of indicating you are off your route back to the car or a point of interest from your trail?

Again the Garmin unit will if you have it retracing you tracks back or have a preloaded course in it. It will beep indicating a turn is coming, and the compass will get you back on track if you have made a wrong turn. The mapping will also show you visually the course, and you can zoom in and see turns on the course, so you know exactly when to turn if you are hiking. When you come to a unfamiliar place on your route and can't remember to left or right, them zoom down to a close range a the arrow will point to the direction from witch you came. This also works with pre loaded courses, and interfaces with google earth
