Can a smartphone go online through my home wireless internet?

If I have a smartphone that's capable of going online (for example let's use the G-1 phone and the Instinct) could I connect to the internet through my home wireless internet? If not those phones then are there any phones that could? Maybe if would have to have Windows Mobile? Would it have to specifically say it's wifi capable or does the fact that it can go online mean it is wifi capable? If it can connect to my home wireless internet then would I have to have internet on the phone as well to use it at home or could I just use my wireless? Sorry I asked a lot there lol but you understand what I meant I hope.

    Thanks in advance

if you want to use your wireless internet with a phone you can only use it with a few phones that say they have Wi-Fi capability. it should be in the list of features for the phone. Blackberry is one phone that can use Wi-Fi.
