is jet li really a hero?

There is much speculation that Jet Li is of Hmong descent, though under a chinese name (like many hmong actors).
    http://www.celebritywonder.com/html/jetli_trivia1.html

I read it once on his message boards, but only found that quick under google. It has me thinking, heros really are just actors. Though I do not doubt his kindness or anything he has done to help humanity, it makes me wonder why he would not use his own stardom to help his own people. This is because many today are being sent back to Laos where they will die by communists for being aids to american troops during the vietnam war. In china and vietnam they are pushed through forced assimilation. There are many tradgedies facing the hmong today, yet they seem to be out of heroes (other then having great common people and good spirit, family and clan leadership).

I am fond of jet li and I do not think he is a bad person and he potrays himself in a nobal manor. However, he plays heroes and saviors yet does not save the ones that probably could use his help.

Why is this? Is it his fear of the chinese government and how they would expel him or imprison him (like they do other actors/directors that speak anti-china or anti-communist). Or does he feel he cannot make a large difference? Does he not consider himself to be hmong and chinese? Or is he purely fictional is just an illusion for what real heros are?

This is just a long sigh of old air. I wish there were more heroes in our world today and not just the ones that are purely fictional.

Firstly, even if it's true that "Heros are just actors" it doesn't follow that Actors are Heros. He's just a Martial Arts film star at the end of the day.

Besides he helps kids get organ transplants

is jet li really a hero?

    i agree

i find him to be a good person and maybe a hero in his everyday life (as in morals and philosophy and as you pointed out with organ donating). However, he is at the end of a day just an actor. Though, i think his people need his support

i was suprised to read he was a tibetan buddhist. thats always good hehe and its pretty gutsy since he is a chinese celeberty and tibetan buddhist. i imagine he has his hands full then.. being hmong, tibetan buddhist, an actor and having to not get butchered by his government that hits all these haha

Why does everyone seem to think that as soon as you become relatively well-known you have some sort of obligation to be a hero?!? If he wants to be the most self-centered ass the world has ever seen, that's his perogative. I may not spend $$ on his movies if that were the case, but that's his perogative!

I agree with Baikaiguy. He really doesn't have to do anything. His immediate responsibility is to himself & his family. Everything & everyone else are secondary.

He is a great MA actor, though, no doubt.
