Who played the opening riff to Black Dog?

It's been a major argument in some newsgroups, but who actually played the beginning riff in this Led Zeppelin song? Was it John Paul Jones or Jimmy Page? Sources are appreciated....

Sounds too high pitch to be a base (even doing harmonics). Jimmy Page.
