I'm writing a personal essay for high school, and I'm wondering whether or not I should capitalize music genres such as rock, classic rock, pop, etc. A friend who helped me said I should, but some websites say they aren't suppose to be capitalized. =/ Just a little confused about this. =) Thanks to anyone who can help.

you should because genres can be classifed as proper nouns so they should be capitalized
