Son of the Morning Star was the title of Evan Connell's great book about George Armstrong Custer and his defeat at the Little Big Horn in 1876 by combined Native American tribes. There was a very good tv mini series made in the 90's based on Connell's book A new book by James Donovan (A Terrible Glory) is an equally great book that would be an excellent source for a new motion picture.. In both books Custer is treated with balance and fairness. He was neither a mythical hero or a glory seeking madman. Custer was complex and contradictory with no shortage of vanity.
